We all have lists- for weekly grocery shopping, ideas on Pinterest, the daily record of do's. After due time, you check off completed tasks and feel your load lighten. Maybe you even undertake a couple extra jobs just to feel momentary satisfaction in the act of crossing them off your list. Then suddenly, our spare time consists of less chores. Heck, you may start to feel like a new person again. Sigh. There's consistently that one pesky-little-bugger-of-a-project on the table that is continuously pushed until "next week". It always creeps it's way back onto the list. No, it's not that you're lazy, nor that you don't want to do it... You know it's obtainable. (Perhaps what really needs to be worked on is your mind set!) Believe me, you can still tackle what's at hand.
The past few weeks have been very exciting as I have been preparing to make THAT big check off MY bucket list. For as long as I can remember, organizing a fundraiser to support diabetes research has been a dream of mine. Taking on the project of initiating a diabetes fundraiser was a big task, but a meaningful one at that. It is that task, I have come to realize while living with type one diabetes (for nearly a decade) that has allowed me to experience the benefits of research. Let's not forget, it's what lets me stand here today too!
In order for others to be able to appreciate the same support I've received, donations are needed to fund charities like JDRF. Of course, there was a whole lot of planning and helping hands to make that ambition a reality on Saturday, March 19 of 2016.

With your help, Let's Boot Diabetes raised a total profit of $10,762.00 in support of JDRF! To say I am overjoyed by all the positive feedback and support would be a total understatement. I feel incredibly blessed by everyone who came together to make this event a success. Over 150 of you joined in for a night of coffee and comedy at The Neufeld Garage! What an overwhelming response to this event. Without you, Let's Boot Diabetes wouldn't have been possible.
Don't forget, it's not too late to donate today! Your donation will support JDRF’s goal of improving the lives of all people affected by T1D by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, treating, and preventing the disease. DONATE TODAY!
When the suggestion of a sequel came about, I'd be lying if I said my mom and I didn't chuckle at the thought. Not that the idea of another fundraiser is far off really, I'm sure just about anything is funny when your half-dead brain cells are on their last run. Sleep. Let me tell you, the days leading up to Let's Boot Diabetes were days in which it was scarcely seen. (Just ask me how many hours I slept the night after- HA.) But in all seriousness, it is genuinely encouraging to know that there is a desire for another event like this. Let's Boot Diabetes take two anyone? 😀
Now although it may of taken me nearly 10 years to check one thing off of my bucket list, I hope my testimony speaks to those who have hopes like mine. To overcome, to share, to empower, to give... to boot diabetes! I highly encourage you to take that risk today; challenge yourself, speak up, try new things. Go ahead and check that "thing" off your list!

The weeks following Let's Boot Diabetes have allowed me to reflect, and a huge thank you is certainly overdue! Once again, this has truly been such a fulfilling time in which I feel so so grateful. I am incredibly thankful to have been able to initiate Let's Boot Diabetes, to be granted such a rewarding opportunity.
Speaking of opportunity.. On March 16th, my mom and I were invited to Golden West Radio where we were interviewed for three different local stations, Mix 96.7 FM, Country 107.7 FM & 1250 AM Radio. Advocating on behalf of Let's Boot Diabetes was a great experience. Thanks to all who listened! If you missed it, here are the blogs about the fundraiser by the stations that hosted us.

In other news, The Carillon published an article about Let's Boot Diabetes on March 13th, in which my friend Eric and I are featured with my mom. Give it a read!
Thank-you thank-you thank-you, to all who made Let's Boot Diabetes a success- from our volunteers, to the individuals who donated boots to our cause! I am overjoyed by all the positive feedback and support. Not to mention the many little encouragements that have spurred me on, such as the messages via Facebook, testimonies that were shared by total strangers, or those that were willing and open to the cause. THANK YOU!
Please visit these local businesses to show how much their support is appreciated. Together we can turn Type One into Type None!

Many thanks to Henry Penner of Penner Auction Sales Ltd. for helping us break stigmas about diabetes by auctioning off several scrumptious desserts!
Our night wouldn't have been nearly as sweet as it was without dessert donations from these businesses and friends with incredible professional talent.

We owe a thank-you to the Steinbach Regional Secondary School Culinary Arts Department for preparing a variety of tasty desserts that complimented the coffee night, and catered to our "sugar-free" guests! Also, a note of thanks to Delo Pure & Simple Water for donating water bottles to our cause!
I would like to give recognition to my mom, Tammy, of Sundown Graphics by beginning to thank her for all the work she put into the design aspect and printing services for Let's Boot Diabetes. Ultimately, nothing would of been possible without her! Thank-you for dedicating yourself as 'director' for the evening, being my main source of inspiration and supporting me along the way. I love you mom!
Special thanks to Barney Morin for being our brilliant MC for the evening! We enjoyed your attempt at auctioneering (ha-ha) and appreciated you setting the bar high for our comedian.
Matt Falk Comedy, thanks for being the highlight of our evening! You were the perfect entertainment for Let's Boot Diabetes, enjoyed by young and old.
Shout out to Neufeld Garage! Thank-you for going above and beyond with generosity for our event, and ultimately allowing Let's Boot Diabetes to be a reality with your venue.
Thank-you to our Let's Boot Diabetes volunteers! We had a great organizing committee that volunteered countless hours. Thanks as well to those who helped out throughout the evening- for set up, serving and working ticket sales/donations, etc. There is so much volunteering that goes into an event like this, and I hope that doesn't go unnoticed! My gratitude goes out to all who have been there along the way; thank-you! Your tremendous support enabled us to run a successful event.
Thanks to Vickie Zachanowich of JDRF for supporting Let's Boot Diabetes by educating our crowd about Type One Diabetes. Thank-you also for assisting us with the technical side of organizing our first fundraiser such as online donations and charitable receipts.
Big thanks to Janice Dumont for speaking about how diabetes affects the whole family. Here's the video that Janice helped put together for the event.
