If Macklemore didn't add a spark to the increasingly popular trend of second hand shopping with the hit song Thrift Shop, it's hard to say what did! Up until recently, second hand shopping wasn't deemed cool nor popular. These were the times when tight pants or ripped jeans simply meant you needed a new pair, and thrift stores were generally the only place you went to when you could afford nothing less. Times have sure changed, haven't they?
Despite second-hand being in vogue right now, buying used clothing is something I (as many others too) have always done. Likewise, by choice, it is something I hope to continue doing in the future. Personally, I really enjoy this current fashion.
The expanding amenities and opportunities for second hand shopping are developing, which means they are also in demand. More and more as this movement takes off I find that it becomes easier to shop second hand too. Lately, I have decided to start buying the vast majority of my clothing second hand. I think it would even be fair enough to say I have put in an effort to purchase 90% (if not more) of my clothing second hand within the past year or so. Purses. Shoes. Shirts... You name it!
To those of you who are new to this idea, or may be sitting there thinking okay crazy lady, are you for real? Are there really people like you out there? (To which I reply, well yes, internet friends, yes I am for real.) Please believe me on this one.
Below are some of my fav finds I've recently hauled.
(*Disclaimer: The phone, books, pen, & earphones were not purchased secondhand.)

Dear world, please recognize that creating a thrifted wardrobe is absolutely achievable. Regardless of many misconceptions, second hand clothes can be both stylish and functional! In respect to a world filled with consumerism, this is an attainable way to find clothing while still contributing to a sustainable environment. Ultimately though, there are many benefits to buying second hand.

►PROS OF SECOND HAND SHOPPING:
- Cheaper/ more affordable
Who doesn't like saving money? Get more for less! Experiment with new looks and buy high end brand names without breaking the bank. (On average, used products are generally 50% cheaper.) With a little effort, you can find great items in new condition, at discount prices! - Unique
Skip the same old and avoid the embarrassing matching outfits at that dinner party. Score unique clothing, find vintage treasures, and steal those bargains. - No shrinking
Do you hate splurging on a new top only to find it half-the-size-never-to-fit-you- again once it goes through the wash? Never worry again about shrinking... Buy second hand! - Eco-friendly & sustainable
Re-use and recycle, people! Cut down on manufacturing demands and reduce excessive consumption. Donate, trade, or swap old clothes for new ones. Do your part to keep clothes out of landfills.
"Oversized sweaters are in style- and so is environmentalism."
- Economically beneficial
Purchases from local businesses and non-profit organizations contribute to local communities. Benefit and promote your local economy by supporting retailers that are committed to growing communities. (ie. The Salvation Army offers practical assistance for children and families, often tending to the basic necessities of life, providing shelter for homeless people and rehabilitation for people who have lost control of their lives to an addiction.) - Ethical
I highly recommend watching the documentary"Would You Still Buy That Dress After Watching This?" by Journeyman Pictures. The 40 or so minute video will definitely make you think twice about what you buy. This documentary impacted the way I think when I shop.
What do you say, will you pop some tags or is this craze not for you?
